Virgil Franklin Partch was born October 17, 1916, on St. Paul Island, Alaska. He died in an automobile accident, August 10, 1984, near Valencia, California. He is best known for his syndicated comic strip, "Big George," which he wrote under the pseudonym, Vip. He created Big George in 1960 after years of work as a free-lance cartoonist contributing to periodicals such as New Yorker and Look .
